[-zi], Gatsha Mongosuthu, Politiker in der Republik Südafrika, * Mahlabatini (Natal) 27. 8. 1928; durch seine Mutter, Kronprinzessin Magogo, mit dem Königshaus der Zulu verwandt. Buthelezi studierte Geschichte und Verwaltungsrecht und war 1972-94 Chefminister des Homelands KwaZulu. Er lehnte sowohl die von der südafrikanischen Regierung geförderte Unabhängigkeit KwaZulus als auch den bewaffneten Kampf gegen die Apartheid ab. Die Ziele der von Buthelezi seit 1975 geführten Inkatha suchte er zunächst innerhalb des Apartheidsystems, nach dessen Abschaffung im Rahmen einer föderativen Republik Südafrika durchzusetzen, was ihn und seine Anhänger in starken Konflikt mit dem African National Congress (ANC) brachte. Nach den Wahlen in der Republik Südafrika wurde er am 11. 5. 1994 zum Innenminister ernannt.
